Quazza has as well made an interesting discovery in that a few frames in the OP appear out of order – and here'southward his comparison:
We think this is a wonderful piece of piece of work bringing new life to a much-loved piece of Sonic the Hedgehog history.

[UPDATE] Earlier today, S2HD Project Manager Canned Karma announced that LOst, Sonic two HD's developer who needlessly added DRM protection to the long anticipated fan game, is no longer part of the project, equally stated in the Sonic Retro forum.
All of us had the exact same reaction everyone here did, and nosotros're actively looking into information technology to the all-time of our abilities. That said, we've heard just as much from LOst equally anyone here has lately, so I'm not sure what, if annihilation, nosotros'll be able to find that corroborated or refutes what'south been brought to light. I will say this though. LOst is no longer a role of S2HD. I'll have a more than in depth response soon. We're just as pissed off well-nigh this as the customs is.

What do you think of the level list? Did your favourite stage make information technology in? Share your thoughts in the comments.
Of course this really isn't Sonic & SEGA All Stars Racing art just instead some cool artwork from 1991 used to promote Mega Earth. Wouldn't information technology be cool if Sonic riding in this car or his Sonic Drift car was implemented into Sonic & SEGA All Stars Racing every bit DLC?

Thanks to Scarred Sun for the heads up on the date this artwork was created and put out.
Sonic Retro Admin Scarred Dominicus has leaked a package of files containing development material from the game Sonic Xtreme. For those non in the know, Sonic Xtreme was a title planned to launch SEGA's blue mascot into the 3D era of gaming but the game worked on by Chris Senn and Ofer Alon had its life cut short when SEGA pulled the plug on its development.
Contained in the package are images, textures, definitions, and a viewer written past SANiK—fisheye perspective and all. With these files we tin can become a closer look at only how far into evolution the game was before it reached cancellation.

We'll keep you lot updated on any further developments.
Sonic Megamix, the most well known Sonic ROM hack, has returned to the public spotlight with a post by, community oldbie, Stealth at Sonic Retro. Stealth revealed that the drama that resulted in the projection'southward cancellation months ago was a consummate misunderstanding. Therefore, it was only canceled for iii days and the in one case Genesis, now Sega CD project has had work done on information technology since being resurrected. When Stealth finally revealed that Megamix was not dead a few days agone, he and other team members brought videos with them to testify the amount of progress that they take made in private.
Despite publicly announcing Megamix's return, Stealth did lay some ground rules that I certainly approve of.
With that said, you lot know how I feel nearly my projects, and this is no exception. It never has been, less of Tweaker's over-zealous promotion. I am protective, and I volition remain so. Nosotros will practise what we please with this projection, and on a time-table of our own choosing. Requests and questions virtually release dates are annoying and pointless. There will be no further demos, or even "private" beta-tests. Fact is, Megamix was supposed to finish development with "version 4″ (at a later point in fourth dimension), until this mess happened. There is no mode we tin can maybe make some other non-final release and keep it substantially fresh. Trust me – you'll thank us when you lot have much more than to play with all at once than one level at the cease of the game and a couple of menu text changes
(…)
Finally, and this is important, we reserve the right to halt completely at any time. We owe a debt to no-one, and we don't take to publicize any newer builds. All we ask for is some decency and respect. Don't launch into actual complaints about how nosotros choose to handle our business organization. Don't rip usa off solely for the sake of riding off Megamix fame. Also, don't go asking for or looking for things that don't vest to you. If we hear nigh the leaked material, or see it being spread/used, that'due south information technology. If you lot want to do our jobs for us, we just won't, and when you can't handle it, you'll only have yourselves to arraign.
The videos beneath showcases Megamix's progress since its motion to the Sega CD. The game is not simply "Sonic CD" smooth, merely now has CD sound, composed past DM Ashura of DDR fame. Megamix's design continues to, in my stance, bridge the old and new styles of Sonic. In addition to the classic Genesis presentation, new moves, such equally the homing set on, and a higher emphasis on speed make their mark.
At present, if merely the level design wasn't and so masochistic.
Visit the official Megamix thread at Sonic Retro.
Yes, you heard correct! Sonic Retro member (and man behind the name 'Dr. Ivo Robotnik'), Dean Sitton, has been kind enough to sale his malfunctioning gateway keyboard on eBay for the bargain 'Buy It Now' toll of $66.60 (quite the joker, Dean.)
Forth with the keyboard however are some very rare pieces of Sonic Merchandise, something any collector would desire to get their easily on. A Canadian printed 8 folio promotional Sonic Comic with a 7 page copy of the original pencil drawings illustrated all the way dorsum in the Baronial of 1991.
Deans auction is currently sitting comfortably at the behest cost of $31, though is quite the bargain even at the 'Buy It Now' cost. You can check out the sale hither and read upwardly on some interesting discussions with the human himself over at Sonic Retro.
I'm on an 8-chip Sonic binge every bit of late, aren't I? Expect, who am I kidding? I e'er am.
A SEGA Master Organization hack, Sonic 2 LD, a championship playing on Retro's HD Sonic two remake, by physician eggfan at Sonic Retro is probably my favorite projection at that forum. The projection's goal is to accept the Sonic 2 levels for the Genesis and put them in the Sonic 2 Master System ROM. A novel concept, considering that I've always wondered why SEGA made different levels for the Master System version (aside from making Aqua Lake Zone, aka "the all-time zone always" – ride that shuffle beat).
Medico Eggfan recently released a new screenshot of his work-in-progress, 8-bit Emerald Hill. Hit the break for the screenshot. Warning: Contents May Be Crawly. Go on reading Fanatics: Sonic ii LD
Visitors of Sonic Retro might have noticed frequent downtime in the by couple of weeks. Well, to remedy that, Scarred Sunday, one of the admins at Retro, has a plan: give her coin. Give her some damn money. She'southward good for information technology, trust me.
The donations will move Retro off of CulTNET, thus keeping other CulTNET sites online if Retro happens to go downwardly once more in the hereafter and could perchance brand the site faster. If you like Retro and/or CulTNET, you'd be a fool to non donate to 1 of the most of import communities in this dark, dark corner of the internet dedicated to a blue hedgehog.
Sik, over at Sonic Retro, has completed his hack of Sonic 3D Boom that removes the Flickies from the game, leaving yous to run around and play the game as if it were a true, isometric version of a Sonic game (where the goal is to simply make it to the end without dying). I must say that I bask 3D Smash ane-hundred times more than than I did (I didn't really like it, so that'due south a huge improvement). Who knew that taking out the entire crux of a game could make it more entertaining?
In this hack, Flickies will still appear, simply you will no longer be able to collect them. The big rings will always let you proceed to the side by side surface area and any areas (like the tube in Panic Puppet) that prohibit your accelerate due to your Flicky count volition permit you lot to go anyway.
With all this fun to be had, however, it must exist said that now that the lost, core mechanic of the gameplay makes the game much easier. Information technology was designed around Flicky collection and at present you tin simply blow through every stage without a need to explore every corner of the isometric worlds. Still, I hate Flicky collection, and so it does not bother me that much. I have never been arsed to play this game all the mode through, and then here'south to Sik for making a mediocre game interesting.
Caput on over to Sonic Retro to download the hack!
Despite no efforts to the opposite, nosotros are withal able to obtain access to Sonic Retro, including their forum. Information technology was there that a photo was discovered that featured a disc titled 'Sonic Proof'. To put information technology into some context, this disc was apparently found in a room at Sega's Headquarters which contains almost all of their work, including Dreamcast, Saturn and Mega Drive titles. The photo above shows (an obvious CD-R based) Sonic Proof wedged between some retail games.
Merely what does it all hateful? Is it the working title for an old Sonic the Hedgehog engine? Is it a concept of another unreleased Sonic championship birthday? Is it something unrelated to Sonic and even Sega (the 'Sega room' independent games from other publishers on PS2 besides)? Is it a massive hoax or a plant (although given the original photograph is pretty legit, it might non exist the case)? Who the heck knows? Not many at the moment, with speculation at a dead end pretty much.
Nosotros're slapping this upwards as a rumour for at present; Sonic Retro are pretty cool with getting information on old stuff, only until it's verified it could well be a wild goose chase.
"Sonic Proof"? – Sonic Retro Message Board
Welcome to the Fan Spotlight, a segment that shines on artistic works in the Sonic community that you should check out.
Over at Sonic Retro, member ColinC10 has fabricated a make new ROM hack that tests not only your fourth dimension attacking skills, merely your boss killing skills as well. "Robotnik'south Revenge" is a Genesis ROM hack that pits you against every single dominate from both Sonic ane & two. Back to dorsum, yous are presented with these familiar challenges inside the Death Egg, a pattern reminiscent of the version of the Death Egg institute in the "Sonic two Long Version" hack. The hack is incredibly addicting, as your previous experience with these bosses leaves you coming back for more if just and so happen to die. I died a few times nigh the end and kept telling myself, "I know that I can vanquish this game! I've done it a 1000 times!" Then, I kept playing.
The hack offers a time assail mode (unlimited lives) and a survival fashion (with lives). You tin play with Sonic or Tails in both modes. Delight, give it a play, because it is really cool to see the Sonic i bosses implemented into the Sonic ii engine.
ROBOTNIK'S REVENGE THREAD AT SONIC RETRO
If you did non see the desperate, ruddy banner of attending at TSSZ already, Sonic 2 HD, the project spearheaded by members at the Sonic Retro customs, have released the kickoff, playable demo of the game. Personally, I cannot play it myself, every bit the game absolutely munched every terminal bit of my RAM (and then some), simply if you lot manage to get information technology running smoothly, I heard it is a nice showcase of their physics engine and the artwork, particularly the fluid animations. I also heard that information technology is fun distraction at work. Take your pick. 😉
Caput on over to Sonic Retro, download the demo, and comment!
While I've been busy making an annal out of the current Summer of Sonic website – be certain to keep sending in your photos and videos – those absurd dudes at Sega Nerds take been one of the many sites who have stepped upwards and made a report on the International Sonic Convention. Many photos and videos were taken, including a few pieces that cover the event really nicely. I'1000 quite happy they managed to get a photograph of Sonic Retro's 'invasion' of the convention (above), every bit I wanted some photo evidence of that. Sonic Retro joined the many other big-proper name fansites that were chronicled on the Community Wall. Hopefully someone has a photo of that, now.

Sonic 1 Megamix has been at the forefront at the hacking customs, considered by well-nigh to exist somewhat of a gold standard when information technology came to calculation content to Sonic ROMs. However, Wednesday marked the cease of the Sonic 1 hack afterward controversy, unnecessary drama, and only obviously bullshit permeated the project's thread for the entire month of August. I'm too lazy to recall the whole story backside the leak earlier this calendar month and all the stupid crap that ensued (and if you're involved in the community, you already know about it), then let'due south just get the project's managing director, Tweaker, to comment on the end of an era:
We have chosen to release the work we have. The game has had many changes, including a port to the Sega CD past Stealth. There is i ISO for each region, and the game should work perfectly on hardware, with a few exceptions; a few Knuckles sections volition crash the system, and the pitch aligning in the sound test doesn't work on hardware either. However, BRAM is fully functional, amongst other things. This is nowhere virtually what an ideal last release would be like, but there'southward really nada more to be said. The game is in a playable state, although it is stressed that this is by no means in an ideal country for a total release. There were many things we had planned simply could not reach, and these things will never exist achieved.
To read his entire post, check the link below. Oh, and take some time off, Tweak. Y'all've earned it.

One of the greatest Sonic encyclopedias on the internet has removed its anonymous editing feature post-obit many attacks to some of its articles, mainly in the fangaming section. The attacks consisted of deleting all the content on a given page and replacing it with a gratuitous amount of copy-pasting swear words. The attacks also had a "SOTI RULES" comment smack dab in the middle of the obsenities.
Stupid people would automatically presume that SonicEpsilon (SOTI) did the dingy deed, only us smart people know that it was a blatant frame, spawning from an ongoing "boxing" between SOTI and long-fourth dimension banned fellow member and retard, Blazefire.
Every bit a result, y'all will have to register an account to contribute to the ever-growing Sonic Retro Wiki.
